In particular I love this painting called ‘The Spanish Poppy’ http://mariapacewynters.wordpress.com/2012/01/07/the-spanish-poppy/ and decided to use it as my guide for my first portrait. What I came up with does not look  anything like Maria’s painting but I did not want to copy anyway. I love here use of colour more than anything and that is what I tried to add to my painting. I must say, having bought some oil pastels really helped with the layers. And best of all I enjoyed painting it.

She probably isn’t Spanish and a poppy she ain’t either. I have no title for her but has grown on me.

It struck me that having a shelf of embossed bottles and jars would look quite beautiful. Especially with the range of metallic and coloured metallic WOW  embossing powders at my disposal.

It is quite simple really! A great beginners project, but watch your fingers – it can get hot!

In Germany, when I was a child, relatives used to give us ‘Sammeltassen’ as a present.  A set of Cup, Saucer and Plate. They all had individual designs, hence the phrase which literally means ‘collection of cups’. Never quite understood what a 10 year old child is supposed to do with a collection of odd cups and plates. On birthdays and special occasions, my mum used to set the table with them in the afternoon for coffee and cake and of course they all broke eventually.  Now I quite like the idea of a collection of pretty cups and am hankering after these sets from PiP Studio Aren’t they gorgeous? Item on my embossing ‘to do’ list: Get in touch with my inner PiP Studio designer and create paper versions of their fabulous designs.

Then I heat embossed the background with WOW Pastel Pink regular. When that has cooled I swiped my ink pad over the raised areas and embossed them with Primary Apple red extra fine. This gives the cup a lovely texture and the feel of porcelain.

My second Valentines piece for the WOW Design team. I love incorporating the WOW embossing powders in my mixed media work. They just give another dimension.

Here I started with some acrylic paint for the background of he canvas. Then I used a stencil and Golden Molding Paste to achieve raised areas. I covered the Molding Paste in WOW Primary Apple red Ultra High Embossing Powder and heat embossed. The letters I started with some acrylic paint and clear embossing powder heat embossed to dry them. Then I stamped them and heat embossed again with WOW Pastel Pink (some interesting effects can be achieved using one powder of the other, more about that another time!)

A bit more distressing and painting with paint and alcohol ink pens et voila.
